12:18 am - Leaving Vermont
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Well, we're headed eastwards once more, with a short stopover in Portland. We'll be largely out of communication until Thursday, so until then - take care, everyone. See you soon.

09:24 pm - Collisions
It turns out that this was a good day for changes.
The new look of thus journal reflects some ideas that I have been pondering of late. The background picture is a bubble chamber particle trace - the journey of protons and antiprotons colliding in liquid hydrogen, an invention that gained Donald Glaser the Nobel Prize in 1960 - and symbolizes to me the collision of ideas and events in my life. Apparently random, the patterns that the collision of thesis and antithesis reveal the hidden meaning in their headlong flight. I like that idea. I wanted to be reminded of it when I read the random collisions in my friend's journals, and when I write about them in my own.
So. Changes. Collisions. Patterns emerging.
Enjoy.

07:44 pm - April 11: Deep Thoughts
Today is a day for beginnings and endings... firsts, and lasts.
Today in 1775 was the last witchcraft execution in Germany.
In 1868, the Shogunate was abolished in Japan.
The BPOE was founded today, in 1868.
The Emirate of Transjordan was founded (1921).
1945: American forces liberated Buchenwald.
Bob Dylan made his singing debut in NYC today in 1961.
One of my faves: 1965 - The Palm Sunday Tornado Outbreak. Fifty-one tornadoes hit in six Midwestern states killing 256 people. Wow.
Apollo 13 was launched (1970).
And just to show someone is paying attention to these little details...
2006 - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Iran had successfully enriched uranium.
Happy April 11, everyone!
